Turn back the clock against ageing skin

A healthy lifestyle is the surest way you can protect your skin against premature ageing. The following tips will help keep your skin looking younger for longer.

Kick the smoking habit for good
This will boost the skin’s circulation and prevent extra lines and wrinkles around the mouth and eyes. Smoking also stops the body’s absorption of vitamin C, reducing its ability to grow new collagen, causing weaker, drier skin.

Keep out of the sun
Whilst sunlight is a vital source of vitamin D helping to protect our bodies from conditions including osteoporosis, arthritis and schizophrenia, sunbathing is a definite no-no. There is no such thing as a healthy looking tan and becoming red or letting your skin burn severely increases the risk of skin cancer as well as premature ageing. Prolonged exposure to the sun and ultra violet light breaks down the structure of collagen, causing wrinkles and sun damage. Protect your skin with a high factor sunscreen to avoid lasting damage.

Get active
Exercise promotes blood flow and nutrients to the skin’s surface boosting the skin’s renewal process. Due to blood being pumped around the body during and after exercise, skin cells deep in the skin are pushed up to the surface creating a more radiant, fresher appearance.

Feeling flirty
Enjoying a close, intimate relationship and an active sex life also boosts circulation, the immune system and leaves the skin glowing. It releases the brain chemicals, endorphins, making you feel happy and content with the world.

Simple skin care
Remembering to keep your skin clean, moisturised and protected against the sun will go a long way to preventing premature ageing and keep your skin supple, smooth and radiant.
